At what temperature does paper burn?
A society where books are burnt!
Firemen don't stop the fire, they start it.
Our hero Guy Montag, a fireman is leading a bland life burning books until curiosity and conscience get better off him. He starts to steal books to understand what's so powerful about them that a woman decided to die with them. But he is busted and starts running away and thus begins a wild manhunt. The eight-legged mechanical hound doesn't miss the mark!! However, he escapes and finds many intellectuals like him hiding in a distant jungle. The novel ends with an atomic bomb falling upon the city and everything is turned into ashes. These men then start their journey back to the city to rebuild and Montag finds himself leading them.
The author clearly warns against an ignorant society that is easily gullible and can't think better off itself. Such a society is doomed to turn into rubble as was symbolized with the felling of the bomb. He had left an open message that any generation can relate to in their own ways. However, he ends with a ray of hope for a better society that can reemerge from the fire like Phoenix.
